about

Detroit's legendary electro-punk duo ADULT. teams up with Planet B (Justin Pearson and Luke Henshaw) and unleashes the collab track "RELEASE ME" !

More from PLANET B here: planetb-ipecac.bandcamp.com/album/planet-b

Justin Pearson (The Locust, Dead Cross, Deaf Club) and Luke Henshaw (Sonido de la Frontera) formed Planet B with the shared purpose of creating music subversive in sound and sobering in message. Their music lays somewhere just out of reach of genre, with aesthetics rooted in hip hop, hardcore punk, turntablism, and 70s-80s horror movie scores. It is catchy, heavily percussive, and eerie all at once, much like the creative output of dark dance duo ADULT., a pair that seek to harness “the perverse aspects of the late '70s analog dystopian post-modernism.”

These artists’ bodies of work mirror one another in form and function, and “Release Me” encapsulates the ethos of both, allowing the duos’ similar mindsets to collide. Nicola Kuperus’s hypnotic vocals add an occult aura, mysteriously alluring and supernatural, in contrast to Pearson’s more aggressive style. Henshaw and Adam Lee Miller’s sampling, sequencing and synthesizing entangle and diverge seamlessly, providing a dance-driven soundtrack fit for an apocalypse. The track ebbs and flows, pulls and pushes, begs to be released and yet remains throbbing in your head long after it ends.

lyrics

Heart throbbing inside my head.
Release me.
The skeleton key unlocks element 115.
What will eventually release me?
Heart throbbing inside my head.
Release me.
Will this life still disagree?
The debris we don’t eat, someone else will bury.
Heart throbbing inside my head.
Release me.
Burn the old mortuary.
Life simulation screws mythology.
Will they move to the wrong heaven?
Can’t grasp reality now or then.
Were we freer then?
God’s problem child is an old has-been.
Let’s get real sick all over again.
Hide under artificial animal skin.
Hope someone makes our identical twin.
And we can wonder what might have been.
Release me.
Free.
